Tasmania: Population

Tasmania's population is 494,520, 85% of whom were born in Australia, with the remainder hailing from the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the Netherlands. Other ethnic groups include Italian, German and Chinese. There are now no pure-bred Tasmanian Aborigines, although a number of Tasmanians claim descent from the original inhabitants, who intermarried with the settlers from the earliest days of colonisation.
