Tasmania Crime

Tasmania is a safe island. In most places you will be as safe, if not safer, than in the UK. You are more likely to be the victim of a pickpocket, or a sneak thief than of a violent crime. You should be vigilant about personal possessions and travel documents, particularly in popular tourist destinations. Only take with you enough money for daily use, or conceal your extra money about your person. If you are travelling by car, don't leave valuables in it. There has been an increase in incidents of spiked drinks and women in particular should be cautious in nightspots; many victims were also sexually assaulted. There is a serious risk of bush fires in the summer months, some of which are started deliberately. If you do suffer from theft, do report it to the police. In general however, Tasmania is a safe place for a holiday.
