Cycling around Sardinia can be a great way to see the island economically but the routes can be steep, winding and challenging. Sardinia’s weather during the summer months can be a disadvantage to cyclists if you are not used to the heat or vigorous exercise. So remember to take it at a sensible pace and drink plenty of fluids along the way. The natural scenery in Sardinia is breathtaking and cycling around the island is one of the best ways to experience the outdoors and stunning landscapes. It is illegal to cycle on highways in Sardinia and a lot of the smaller roads are narrow and winding, and can be hazardous, especially at night. Bikes are allowed to be carried on most trains at the expense of €5, and are kept in a separate cart. Bikes are allowed free of charge on ferries. Bike hire in Sardinia is available in the majority of tourist areas, main towns, and cities. Bike hire prices vary from €8 - €25 per day.
