Penang: Geography
Pearl of the Orient

The geography of Penang consists of the island of Penang (Pulau Penang or Penang Island) and a coastal strip on the mainland called Province Wellesley (Seberang Prai). Penang Island covers an area of 285 sq km. Many say that Penang Island resembles a turtle! It is approximately 24 km north to south and 14.5 km east to west. Penang Island and the mainland are linked by the 13.5 km Penang Bridge, the third longest in the world, and a ferry service.
