You will have plenty of choice when it comes to staying in a hotel in the Netherlands. The standard of accommodation can vary and the star rating for Netherlands hotels is really about the facilities (e.g. a telephone, and/or television in each room etc) they offer and the size of the establishment, rather than the quality of the accommodation.

Hotels are rated up to five stars, with anything that does not have a star rating being called a pension, or guest house. Having said that, many Dutch hotels tend to be quite small, with anything consisting of more than 20 bedrooms considered large. The larger Dutch hotels will usually have lifts, this is important because stairs in Dutch houses tend to be extremely steep, so anyone with mobility problems will check that the hotel is equipped with a lift. If you book a room with a private showerin the Netherlands, it may not also include an en-suite toilet as well.

The most expensive hotels in the Netherlands however will invariably have a full bathroom en-suite. Some establishments in the Netherlands, especially in Amsterdam, may serve English breakfast, but in most Dutch hotels you will be served a traditional local breakfast. A double room in a typical three-star hotel in the centre of Amsterdam would cost about £126 for two people sharing, whereas a double room in Utrecht in a four-star hotel might cost £75 for two people sharing.
