Melbourne Fishing

Snapper is the big catch around Melbourne – it comes into Port Philip Bay as early as September and stays until around March. Flathead and whiting are also found in the Bay. Fishing in the bay is permitted from the piers at Port Melbourne, Middle Park, St Kilda, Brighton or Sandringham, or you can hire a motor boat and set out for a day on the bay. Or, if you'd rather be driven by someone else, why not join one of the organised fishing charters that operate in the bay. You can also try your luck with bream and drop a line in the Yarra or the Maribynong rivers along the stretch between the river mouth at Williamstown and the junction with the Maribynong.
