Mallorca: Introduction
A beautiful region of stunning coastline, olive groves, pine forests and ochre villages

Mallorca is the largest and one may say the brightest of the Balearic Islands. The sparkling beaches and rugged coastline of Mallorca offers a great setting to enjoy a relaxing holiday. The best beaches in Mallorca range from quiet isolated coves of Cala Mondrago to the larger activity filled beaches like Alcudia. Besides the beaches of Mallorca the island has incredible mountain ranges in the northwest providing some spectacular views.
Hiring a car in Mallorca is great value for money and a brilliant way to explore the island away from the tourist spots. Take advantage of the walks on offer in the beautifully sculpted landscape in the northwest of Mallorca and explore nature parks dotted around the island. The village of Valdemossa is a must see in order to get a real taste of Mallorcan life. Up on the north coast Valdemossa and its surrounding landscape provides and exceptional setting and it’s great for a relaxing day out. Wander down the cobbled streets and take in the 13th century architecture. There’s a spectacular view down to the capital Palma which can be seen through the incredible valleys.
And if relaxing isn’t your thing then why not head down to Magaluf and take advantage of the water sports and the tonnes of bars and cafes which attract thousands of party goers every year. Down in Palma enjoy the spectacular cathedral and wander through the many markets of crafts, food and flower markets but make sure you get there early as they tend to close around midday. Mallorca has great deep sea fishing excursions; a great place to start is at the port of Soller in the north. There are also plenty of diving centres open all year round where you can explore the Mallorcan coasts and caves.
Eating out in Mallorca is on the whole an inexpensive and enjoyable endeavour. There are hundreds of bars and cafes open all over the island through the day and well into the night. So take advantage of the cuisine, beaches, sea and landscape that Mallorca has in abundance.
