Resorts in Malaysia
There are plenty of resorts in Malaysia where you can go to get away for a couple of days or a more extended break. These include small islands, beaches or even hill resorts. Generally the best time to visit the beach resorts is between February and October, as the year-end months bring with it monsoon rains and winds. One of the most popular, crowded and commercialised island getaways off the Malaysian East Coast is around Tioman. It's located about 45 minutes from Mersing by hydrofoil, or you can take the high-speed ferry from Singapore's Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, about 4 hours. Tioman has nice beaches, chalets, and more expensive hotel resorts. The clear water also makes Tioman ideal for snorkelling and diving. Langkawi is the next best area for excellent Malaysian resorts: a group of 90 plus islands situated near the northern tip on Malaysia, and is probably best accessed by air from Singapore. Famous for its luxurious resorts and beautiful beaches, Langkawi is more a place where you go to relax by the pool or suntan on the beach, while at the same time have all the modern amenities near you. Located about 45 minutes' drive from the capital Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands (1700m above sea level) is a popular destination for holidaymakers looking for a little flutter in the sun, largely for its casino and cool weather. There is family entertainment as well, in the form of a theme park and amusement facilities. The drive up and down the winding hill roads can be tricky, so many people prefer to take a coach or cable car. In short, you can find a plethora of fantastic resorts up and down Malaysia, whenever you look to visit.
