Getting to Madrid couldn’t be easier with the city served by almost 100 airlines, efficient bus networks and trains that run in and out of the Spanish capital and service the airport. The ongoing expansion of Spain’s high-speed rail network means that the transport service is highly effective and getting from the airport to your accomodation couldn’t be easier. If your tour operator isn’t taking you to your hotel or room then taxis are on hand, as are Madrid Airport trains which are all run via The Metro (underground). The mainline High speed trains such as the RENFE and AVE do not go to Madrid airport but they are only a few minutes away by the Metro. The airport has two Underground stops: one on the 1st floor of T2 (with access to T1,T2 and T3) and another on the 1st floor of T4. Be warned that you have to pay an extra euro to enter and exit the airport stations (T1, T2, T3 and T4). There are two types of buses from Madrid Airport: public transport and private shuttle buses.

Taxis from the airport

Private Madrid airport transfers are essential if your party is larger than four people (including any children) as taxis in Spain will not carry more than this number. There is a taxi rank outside the airport and a van company on site, should you be in a bigger group. If there are less than five of you then hop in a taxi and ask the driver to take you to your destination. Taxis into the centre of the city take about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic and will cost in the region of 17 to 25 euros.

Madrid By Bus

Madrid Airport operates a free shuttle bus service between the terminals which runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 3 minute intervals and goes to a various amount of destinations. You can find the bus stops at: T1 first floor departures; T2 - second floor departures and T4 - ground floor arrivals. There are efficient bus services in every part of the city and it is the cheapest form of travel.

Car rental in Madrid starts at about 30 euros and is quite economical considering all the sights and places you can visit in one day or over a weekend. You could tour the ancient Plaza Mayor and shop for gifts in the main market, visit Madrid's Royal Palace, or the Prado to view paintings by Goya and Velasquez.
