Madrid: Costs
Spain's buzzing capital

Madrid remains generally cheaper for travellers than many other major world capitals and has a lot to offer. It is possible to book a semi-luxurious boutique hotel for around 100 euros a double in the city centre and at the budget end of the market, dormitory beds shouldn’t set you back more than 20 euros and nice hostales (hostels) with private bathroom and TV cost around 60 euros, sometimes even less. Eating out in a cosy restaurant shouldn’t cost much more than about 30 euros per person, although you can eat out for a lot less if you dine from the weekday lunchtime menú del día, a fixed-price, three-course set lunch that costs around 10 euros. The metro, city buses and taxis are very cheap.
