Madeira has a range of simple old guest houses providing bed & breakfast accommodation for your Madeira holiday. An estalagem or albergaria (inn) usually suggests something in the mid-range of price and comfort. A residencial, residencia or pensai (pension) is likely to be inexpensive and reasonable simple. It is also possible to stay in private rooms, and it’s worth enquiring at the tourist office about these. There are lots of bed & breakfast accommodations in beautiful spots with beautiful mountain and coastal views, but bear in mind that you’re likely to need a hire car to get around. Expect to pay in the region of €30 per person per night for a double room. Prices are lower in June, July and January (after New Year), while Christmas and New Year rates can be 20 per cent more than the usual ‘high season’ charges.
