Los Angeles: Introduction

With the famous Hollywood sign perched high in the Hills, the lights of famous Los Angeles streets wind their way down to perfect California beaches and the cool Pacific Ocean. Whether you’re taking scenic Sunset Boulevard or shop-lined Melrose Avenue, all roads will eventually lead you to one of L.A.’s famous beaches like Santa Monica or Malibu. Most visitors cannot wait to take a picture of their favourite “Star” on the Walk of Fame or try to fit in the handprints of Marilyn Monroe or Cary Grant at Mann’s Chinese Theatre. Families amuse themselves at Universal Studios Theme Park or the original Disneyland in nearby Anaheim. The La Brea tar pits, a geological wonder, with its massive dinosaur statues are conveniently located on museum row not far from the famous Getty Museum.

For the athletic traveller, grab a board and head to the beach for some of the best surfing in the world. For those less ambitious, whale watching is the activity for you. Enjoy open markets with some of the freshest fruits and vegetables, shop at the Fashion District – one of the largest in the country, or take a relaxed stroll on the Third Street Promenade pedestrian walk. Just don’t forget to stop by the much-photographed carnival at Santa Monica Pier and the Venice Beach Boardwalk – both icons of television and films.
