Lisbon has a population of about 560,000, not including the surrounding administrative districts of Greater Lisbon, which are home to around 2.6 million inhabitants. Portuguese is the official language in Portugal, while Spanish, English and French are often understood amongst the educated in Lisbon, as well as those working in the tourist sector.
