Spanish is spoken throughout Guatemala. However, 40% of the population speak Amerindian languages, overwhelmingly from the Mayan family. The principal Mayan languages spoken are: Quiche, Cakchiquel, Kekchi, Mam and Xinca.

The currency of Guatemala is the Quetzal, which is made up of 100 centavos. Quetzal notes are obtainable in Q100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. There are also coins available in denominations of Q1, and 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 centavos. The US dollar is also used as a currency in Guatemala.
