Guatemala: Mountain Climbing

Although rock climbing is not a very popular sport with Guatemalans, the country has some wonderful places for climbing and it is increasingly becoming an attraction for those who want to include some climbing in their holiday. Guatemala's volcanic landscape hides many climbable walls and boulders. Even though some of them are hidden under vegetation, there are several places with enough rock to provide a great climbing experiencein Guatemala. You will need to consider whether it is worth bringing your own climbing gear, as there are virtually no climbing clubs in Guatemala. Amongst some of the most popular and best climbing locations are: Filón de Amatitlán near Lake Atitlan, Cerro Quemado in Quetzaltenango, Los Esclavos in Santa Rosa, Jalapa and Chiquimula.
