The cost of living in Goa is very low. It is possible to spend very little on a holiday in Goa as cheap food, accommodation and taxis are effortlessly on hand. However, now Goa is emerging as an upmarket tourist destination as well, it is possible to be frivolous and spend lots of hard earned cash on luxury. The more expensive hotels will also charge Western prices for everything consumed on the premises. If you are looking to keep costs down, it is recommended to eat at local restaurants where you can find the same quality at a fraction of the cost. All modes of transport in Goa are extremely cheap but always agree a price before taking any form of taxi. If you fail to agree a price before hand you will almost definitely be charged triple on arrival to your destination.
