Motels are very popular in Costa Rica, though not necessarily for the right reasons. The sex industry and in particular the sex trade is big illegal business on these shores as prostitution is not illegal. Motels therefore are often the haunt of the sex tourist. Whilst not all motels look like the perfect place for such an activity – you should be at least aware of the thriving industry. Prices are again, very reasonable on the whole and can be found as cheap as 15 Euros, though booking in advance isn’t as common as it might be.
