If you are considering going hiking in the Caribbean, you must first consider whether it is a safe area and secondly whether the weather will be favourable, as the Caribbean is succesptible to heavy rainstorms and earthquakes. You will also need to physically very fit to tackle some Caribbean hiking areas. Often considered one of the best hiking trails in the Caribbean is the Valley of Desolation and Boiling Lake Hike. It is a 7-hour roundtrip marathon up and down the mountains of Dominica. Also popular for hiking in the Caribbean is the La Soufriere Volcano Hike in Guadeloupe. Much less effort is required than in Dominica, and you will climb to the summit of an active volcano whose last major eruption was in 1976.
