Bahamas Crime

The Bahamas have seen a recent rise in crime. There have been reports of assaults against female tourists, though the majority of crimes occur between locals, particularly in the non-touristic part of Nassau, south of downtown. Crime in the Bahamas is still much less than in large U.S. cities, for example. While staying in the Bahamas, appropriate caution should be taken, especially at night and in deserted areas, including certain beaches. Do not leave valuables unattended, use hotel safes, travel in groups when possible and ask hotel staff about which areas to avoid.
