Bahamas: Nightlife

29 islands against a backdrop of blue

Nightlife in the Bahamas is mainly centered in Nassau and surrounding areas like Cable Beach and Paradise Island. Other resort areas and towns may have a few bars, restaurants and even night clubs, but are quite quiet when compared to Nassau’s lively cosmopolitan scene and the glitz of Paradise Island. Bahamian nightlife is particularly active during the high season of mid-December to mid-April and some popular spots may be over run with teenagers during spring break. The off season is far quieter, with most of the action taking place on weekend nights. Popular nightclubs include the touristy chain Señor Frog’s, the upscale Charlie’s and Pure Nightlife, while locals prefer Club Fluid. A lot of American and British music is played in the clubs, but so is Bahamian music, known as “rake 'n' scrape”. Cover charges average around $20 (13€), but major hotels will sell passes which lower the cover to $5 (3.50€). Many clubs double their cover charges on the weekends.
