Antigua and Barbuda are tropical islands in the West Indies, south east of Puerto Rico. Largest of the Leeward Islands Archipelago surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Global co-ordinates, 17 degrees 5 minutes north and 61 degrees 48 minutes west.

English is the official language and is spoken throughout. Antiguan Creole dialect is widely spoken.

The currency in Antigua and Barbuda is the East Caribbean Dollar (ECD) which is pegged to the US Dollar (USD) between 2.6 and 2.7 ECD = 1 USD. The ECD is divided into 100 cents. US Dollar travellers cheques are recommended. Most major credit or debit cards are accepted at hotels, restaurants, duty free shops and supermarkets. Cash points (ATMs) are available at banks at St. John's and all major visitor centres. Banking hours are generally Monday to Thursday 8am – 2pm and Friday 8am – 4pm.
