Antigua and Barbuda Crime

Gun crime increased in 2008 culminated in the deaths of a British honeymoon couple which has resulted in the tightening of security in Antigua under the watchful eye and supervision of a special British police force. International terrorism poses a low threat as does drugs crime. Visitors are warned to keep away from parts of St. John's at night and not to walk alone on country roads at night. Valuables should not be left in vehicles, and only a limited amount of cash should be carried. Lock possessions in the hotel safe and take the key with you rather than hide it.
