Antigua and Barbuda: Sailing

Life is a beach

Antigua and Barbuda Sailing

The warm clear waters and prevailing trade winds combine to make Antigua the perfect destination for sailing. The seas inside the reefs are generally calm, ideal for dinghy sailing and perfect conditions for beginners to the sport. Hotels, resorts and water sport centres around Antigua provide dinghies, catamarans for hire, mostly free to hotel guests and instruction is available for a charge. Deep sea sailing is popular for circumnavigating Antigua and for island hopping. Yachts or power boats can be chartered from one of the marinas or harbours, rates would include crew, food and drink. Tour operators offer group sailing by the day or half day for circumnavigation, exploring the coastline, visiting the islands, and also eco tours which are becoming very popular as we are becoming more ecologically conscious. Sailing Week in April and regular regattas throughout the year are great spectator events especially as they are conducted in a friendly, party atmosphere.
